Basketball
The Y offers the opportunity for kids and adults to get involved and have some fun with basketball. With both social and developmental programs on offer, it’s the perfect sport for everyone to get involved in! Looking for something with a competitive edge? YMCA Geelong have their own Basketball Club, see below.
Aussie Slammers
Aussie Slammers is a Y Geelong basketball skills development program for children aged 5 to 12 years old.
The program is ideal for budding basketball players who wish to develop and master the skills of basketball without the pressure of competition.
Trained and experienced staff will teach each child the basic skills of basketball including dribbling, passing, catching, shooting and rebounding. The classes are made to be “fun” and are designed for children who may not have played the game before or who want to improve their current skills.
Based on the 4 F's (fun, fundamentals, friends and fitness) the emphasis is on having fun in small groups while learning the game and its skills in achievable stages.

Social Basketball
The teams get divided into two divisions based on skill and age. No previous experience is needed; this is a beginner’s competition designed to teach children the rules of the game whilst playing! Our umpires will talk players through what each call is.
Our competition runs on Wednesday night with game time being between 4-6pm. Each term our fixture will start again, and half yearly a round will be played.
You are welcome to put in a complete team or put in a single player and we will try place your player into a team. There is no scoring during games, and at the last round of the season in June and December a round robin will be played, where two MVP’s will be awarded.
