An experience of a Lifetime!

Golden Plains Shire Council, VicHealth and YMCA Geelong have teamed up to run 4 day trips and 2 overnight camps for young people from the Golden Plains community to give them an opportunity to connect with their peers in an outdoor environment.

Our aim is to build resilient, connected young people through outdoor experiences.

The Participants will be exposed to a wide range of workshops and activities designed to build confidence and connect with young people of similar ages within the Golden Plains shire.

The program will be co-designed by young people for young people. Activities will include mountain bike riding, rock climbing, canoeing and cooking pizza in a nature’s pizza oven. There will be team challenges, adventure races and music performances. We will also have guest speakers and support workshops.

Are you interested in being a Volunteer Camp Leader?

We are looking for volunteer leaders to join the team, helping students who live in isolated communities to develop life skills, resilience, confidence and a holistic well-being. If you are studying teaching, social work or like the idea that you are helping young people in the community, WE WANT YOU! We are also interested in having secondary school students apply as volunteer leaders – this is a great way to do your community service for school.

You will gain experience, working alongside expert mentors and coaches from a range of fields and guide young people through various challenges and adventures. You will be working with a range of ages, genders, family backgrounds, life experiences and you will develop your leadership skills. You could change a life.

The day trips will be based in the Golden Plains Shire and the overnight camps will be held at Camp Wyuna in Queenscliff. Ideally you will be available to attend all the day trips and camps in the program. Volunteers will go through an interview process and will be notified if their application is successful. There will also be two training days for Volunteer leaders to ensure that they fully understand the program and develop the skills they need to be successful in their role.

It is a win/win scenario…both the participants and the volunteer leaders gain from this experience. The participants learn from your mentoring, you gain skills in mentoring
