Local Gymnast Olivia Meaney Selected for Australian Gymnastics Team
YMCA Geelong is proud to announce that 14-year-old Belmont High School gymnast Olivia Meaney has been selected to represent Australia in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics as part of Junior International Level in Europe this November.
This marks Olivia’s first national team selection, this opportunity is the reward for years of dedication, discipline, and persistence. Olivia began gymnastics at just four years old and now trains around 25 hours a week across five days, often with double sessions to refine and perfect her skills. Gymnastics is her passion, her purpose, and her joy.
As one of only a few regional athletes currently selected to represent Australia, Olivia trains with the YMCA Geelong Gymnastic Club International Development Squad, allowing her to remain regionally based and connected to her family while balancing school as a committed Year 8 student.
Representing Australia has been Olivia’s lifelong dream. Wearing the green and gold on the international stage is a huge achievement—and just the beginning. It marks the first step toward future international opportunities, including her vision of competing at the 2026 Youth Olympics.
As part of the Australian team’s European tour, Olivia will compete at two major international competitions:
- Club Athlétique de Combs-la-Ville (France) – 1–2 November 2025
- Gympies Gymnova Cup, Keerbergen (Belgium) – 7–9 November 2025
“Olivia’s selection is a testament to her perseverance and commitment to excellence,” said Rhian Jamieson, IDS Head Coach at YMCA Geelong Gymnastics. “She’s an incredible role model for younger athletes in our program, and we couldn’t be prouder to see her wear the green and gold.”
“I’m so excited to represent Australia,” Olivia said. “It’s always been my dream to compete internationally, and I’m really thankful for all the support from my coaches, family and everyone at Y who have helped me get here.”
YMCA Geelong CEO Shona Eland added, “This is a wonderful achievement for Olivia and Coach, Rhian for our entire gymnastics community. It showcases the strength of regional talent and the pathways that exist for young athletes to reach the highest level.”
“We recognise the significant cost it takes for young people to reach their dreams with no financial support from National Sporting Organisations we encourage our generous community to support Olivia’s online fundraiser efforts”.
The YMCA Geelong community wishes Olivia and Coach, Rhian Jamieson every success as they prepare for their European tour this November.
