Skills Testing

Skills Testing

We conduct skills testing four times per year over a two-week period. During this time, gymnasts are assessed on all apparatus relevant to their level. This system allows athletes to progress through the levels at their own pace with the opportunity to move up every term. A participation certificate will be awarded the week after testing is completed and full testing results will be available on your iClass portal within two weeks.

Fequently Asked Questions:

How does my child pass a level?
To pass a level, your child must be able to perform all required skills for that level to a 3 star standard. Each skill is assessed during testing and receives a 1–3 star competency rating, each child is aiming for 3 stars on all skills!
You can view all skills for your gymnast’s level in the Skills Testing section of your iClass portal.
How long does it take to pass a level?
Every gymnast progresses at their own pace. In the Gymsafe 1–3 program, most athletes follow a general twelve-month development journey, meaning they typically pass one level every 6–12 months. Some children may advance more quickly, while others may take longer as they focus on building confidence and refining their technique.
As gymnasts move into higher levels, skills become more challenging and require more time, strength, and precision to master.
For our Advanced Levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold), the skills are more intricate and technical, so gymnasts generally spend 1–2 years working through each advanced level.
What if my child was not able to pass their assigned level?
That’s okay! Progress looks different for every gymnast. Our coaches celebrate every achievement, big or small and focus on building confidence and safe skill development. Your child will continue to grow and improve in their current level until they are ready to progress.
What if my child was absent during testing?
Skills testing occurs every term, so your child will be able to participate in the next testing cycle.
Does my child learn the skills they are being tested on during class?
Yes. All skills included in your child’s level are taught and practiced during their regular classes.
Gymnasts spend only 15–30 minutes on each apparatus every two weeks, therefore repetition is essential for masting fundamentals. This may seem like they’re doing the similar things every week but this is crucial for long-term success and safety.
What happens once my child passes their level?
We love celebrating your child’s progress! Once the coordinator inputs results into iClass and your child has officially passed:
  • They will receive a certificate listing all the skills they achieved.
Our reception team will contact you to help book into the next level.
